Did a tour of wineries in the Marlborough region on the South Island while staying in Blenheim. Wellington is a nice city and a funicular takes you from the city centre to an excellent park above. On the Northern Explorer that goes from Wellington to Auckland we were well fed. See the menu here. The deluxe seating which includes meals all day long is NZD$575 (~$470). Auckland has an excellent war museum.
